Practice settings & line detection

Tune how Offbook listens, when it advances, and how the script looks on screen.

Line detection modes

Open Scene Controls → Line Detection to choose how Offbook decides you've finished a line:

  • Auto: Offbook moves on when you finish your line. Drag the How exact? slider to set how close to the script you need to be. It has four stops, from Word-perfect to Forgiving: Exact words, Small slips OK, Own words OK, and Main idea. Pick a forgiving stop for early run-throughs and Exact words once you're nearly off book.
  • Manual: Offbook never advances on its own. You move on by pressing Enter, clicking Next, or saying "next line". To go back to Auto, click Turn off manual or choose Auto in Scene Controls.

Auto-advance on silence

With auto-advance on, the scene moves forward after a stretch of silence, which helps when you trail off or a line just isn't matching. Pick a delay from 1 to 6 seconds. (Not available in Manual mode.)

Word tracking

Turn on Enable word tracking in Scene Controls and Offbook underlines each word of your line as it hears you say it, so you always know exactly where you are. After the line, any word it didn't hear stays marked.

Display options

  • Appearance: Dark, Light, or System (follows your device).
  • My lines: make your own lines stand out in color or with a highlight.
  • Font size: scale the script text from 10 to 24 pt.
  • Playback speed: set the default speed for AI-read lines; you can also override speed per line in the scene editor.
  • Hide start marker: ignore the start marker and always begin from the top.
  • Theme: pick one of six accent colors or set a custom one to change the app's highlight color.
Tip: Rehearsing movement or on your feet? Combine a larger text size with a forgiving How exact? stop and auto-advance so you can stay off the keyboard entirely.
